All varieties, yields, prices and costs are taken from a real farm business model (Rand / ZAR). Each block represents β100 plants.
Soil pH is everything. Blueberries need pH 4.5β5.5. Apply elemental sulfur to acidify; soil naturally drifts back toward neutral. Out-of-range soil starves the bush.
Bee pollination drives fruit set. Each spring (flowering) you must bring in beehives (MayβAug, ~30 hive-months/ha in the real model). No bees β fruit set collapses to ~35% and your summer yield craters.
Choose your variety. Real shortlist below β they differ in yield curve, fruit quality, cold-storage, market access and per-plant royalties.
Years to mature. Bushes are juvenile (no fruit) the first year, then ramp Yr1βYr5+ along each variety's real kg/plant curve.
Drip irrigation (Netafim Net Bow 3.1 L/hr). Install farm-wide drip to auto-water; otherwise water by hand.
Fertigate with the 5-tank program (Calcium Β· P&K Β· N&Mg Β· Micros Β· Bio). Over-feeding burns roots and nudges pH up.
Grading & pricing. At harvest your crop splits into 1st grade export (R170 early / R85 late season), 2nd grade local (R50), and 3rd grade freeze (R17). Better health & older bushes shift more fruit to premium export grade.
Real pests:Spotted Wing Drosophila (delta traps + pheromone), thrips (sticky traps), birds (netting), and Botrytis/fungal disease in wet weather (fungicide).
Royalties are charged every winter per planted block β Apex and the club varieties cost far more than AzraBlue.
